Re: '87 thru '89 interchagability

The small starter is quite swappable between several GM engine families. Buick 3300, 3800....Chevy 2.8, 3.1, 3.4.......Caddy 4.1-4.9.

Or so I'm told on the Caddies. They definitely look similar.

Re: Road trip!

Brakes and wheel bearings. Check all fuel & brake lines for potential problem areas......you're far enough north that rust could be an issue. Take the serpentine belt off and spin all the pulleys by themselves. Check for loose or binding ones. Squeaky bearings are typically on their way out. Carry a...

One of these 3800 intakes from down under would be nice.

Re: Questions on Pulling JUST the motor

I always like to do all the underneath stuff first. Then move on to the stuff up top. Lastly, undo hoses/lines.

This way, you're not working in any puddles of fluid.

Re: RWD in BLT (Jan '09)

Freddie - I'd locate a good DS upper arm and good cover, clean it up and sell it - so you can get an 8.8 version. Might even make a couple bucks in the process. You shouldn't have too much trouble selling it. That would make a nice swap for a mini trucker that's running a 4 cyl. & 5 speed setup. Tha...

Re: Project 2 door Bonneville AKA "B-Type"

Found a pic of the X-Camino too.... http://cache.jalopnik.com/assets/resources/2007/02/X-Camino.jpg I guess one of the points of posting these last 2 pics is to show how cool the finished product can look. Both the above are something Buick should have done. Eric - I guess that means you get to do w...

Here's a Chevy/Buick hybrid.....

And no, it's not as simple as swapping noses.

Re: Silver interior trim

Roll out the vent pieces and grab your 7mm nutdriver. I think there's 8 of them.

I know when I walk in the yard, even if I'm not bringing all the tools, I always bring a nutdriver set, straight tip screwdriver, and a good pair of cutters.

Re: Fenderwell Intake (FWI)

Very interesting Scott. I'm assuming the pipe diameter is the same as the 3800's throttle body? I guess it would have to be or you wouldn't have taken it:) Looks very similar in diameter. I would have grabbed it anyways....not often you come by a $200+ CAI w/filter at the yard. Got a K&N FIPK setup...

Rebuilding the 3.8L Buick V6

Found a very detailed write-up from Doug Anderson from Grooms Engines down in Nashville, TN. I've read several of his articles for Engine Builder Magazine back when I was at the machine shop. I also got to meet him in person down in Bowling Green, KY at the GS Nationals one year. Really good info in...

ZR2 Disc Brake 8.5" Rear - 30 Spline Auburn Posi 3.73 Gears

Isn't for a T (at least not bolt in), but I know we've got several RWD guys on the board too. I have a good ZR2 8.5" disc brake rear for sale. It has the Auburn cone style posi, 30 spline axles, and 3.73 gears. Comes with alum. calipers and stock rotors. Gears are in good shape. This isn't the Gov-l...

Re: Fenderwell Intake (FWI)

Picked up an AEM unit w/K&N filter from a V6 Accord last week.

I think it might be usable for a T.

Re: 89 Somerset T

I always thought it would be nice to upgrade that body style with a good 3800.

Somerset looks better than the Grand Am of that era.

Just don't break the taillight.....it goes from one side to the other. At a dollar an inch(or whatever your yard charges), that will add up in a hurry.

Re: tpi?

I typically see ME9(440T4) to go along with the F79 code. When M13 is present, that should be a 4T60e (or so I thought).

As I recall, on the Caddies that changes after 1990.
